Daphne (Keaton) only wanted the best for her daughters but having seen Maggie (Graham) and Mae (Perabo) married to good men, that only left her youngest Milly (Moore) without someone special in her left. With one disastrous relationship after another, Daphne decides to take matters into her own hands and writes her an Internet personal add and sets about interview prospective suitors herself.

Most people have stories of meddling relatives or friends trying to set them up with someone but Diane Keaton's character would be everyone's worst nightmare.

Everyone knows or has heard of someone who has had their love life meddled with by a relative or friend who think they can make better choices and this is a movie that plays on that. Diane Keaton's Daphne would be anyone's worst nightmare. Completely controlling and overbearing but at heart wanting the best for her only unmarried daughter, the problem is that she doesn't know when to stop or how far is too far.

By placing a personal ad on a dating website, Daphne interviews prospective boyfriends for Milly and finds what she thinks is her perfect match. That man is Jason, played by Tom Everett Scott, a charming architect with money and love of poker dots, her favourite pattern. Is she right for Milly however, that seems to be the furthest thing from her mind. Watching her interview all these prospects was musician Johnny, played by Gabriel Macht, who just happed to think that he could be the perfect date for Milly. Daphne's daughter then starts dating both men and that is when the emotions really start to take over.

From the description above one thing is really obvious, this is a movie that is aimed squarely at a female target audience. The film is the definition of the 'Chick-Flick', meaning that most males will find nothing about the movie appealing. With themes of love, relationships and every other girly theme you can think of, the female audience will adore everything about this film but if you drag your boyfriend, partner or husband along to this, he won't thank for it.

'Because I said So' is an all out girly movie that will only resonate with its target audience. Diane Keaton's performance is slightly over the top but Mandy Moore proves again that she is just as talented an actor as she is a singer. Both Tom Everett Scott and Gabriel Macht are a little wet however but they are exactly what women want to see. If you are female you will enjoy this but please don't make you man sit through this with you because he won't thank you for it.

The group talk about the embarrassing things that mothers do and how this became the script for the film. The featurette also talk about the chemistry between Diane Keaton and the girls, as well as what the men brought to the movie. This is a short featurette but it does cover most of the things that fans would like to know.

Director Michael Lehmann, writer/producer Jesse Nelson, costume designer Shay Cunliffe, director of photography Julio Macat, cake divas Leigh Grode and Joan Spitler and stars Diane Keaton, Mandy Moore, Gabriel Macht and Tom Everett Scott talk about shooting in Los Angeles, the clothes and look of the piece, the characters and the cakes.

OVERALL

With only two short featurettes and a music video, fans will be very disappointed with the DVD treatment of 'Because I Said So'. This was a movie crying out for a commentary track from the stars of the film but sadly you won't be listening to Diane Keaton and the rest of the girls.
